Happy New Year and Welcome to Season 2016 at the Coolbinia Junior Football Club!
With summer drawing to a close, work for the 2016 CBJFC season is well underway.

Team Lists and Age Groups
As a committee we work diligently to retain all teams from year to year. Within this target, however we cannot always guarantee that players will remain in the same team or with the same coach. For year groups with single teams, this is a straight forward process, however for year groups with multiple sides the over-riding philosophy at Club level is to ensure that the teams CBJFC field are evenly matched for skill, physical size and competitiveness. We cannot control how other Clubs decide on their team make-up, however at CBJFC we strive to keep our teams even with each other. If there are changes to the team your son or daughter plays in, please accept this in good faith with the aforementioned philosophy in mind. Some consideration is given to convenience, as we understanding some families share rides to and from training or school etc. but it is essential we keep evenly matched teams. The Club’s policy on Team Selection (Junior Grades) can be found here.
Canteen for 2016
The Club is working through a number of ideas for how the canteen will be run for 2016. It is essential that the canteen continues to be a major fundraiser for the Club. The expectation of the Committee on parents is that when it is your turn to serve, and you have been rostered on, that you turn up early, work hard and contribute to the Club. Serving in the canteen is a condition of your child’s membership of CBJFC and failure to assist in this aspect of the Club could jeopardise your child’s membership of CBJFC.
Development Programme
In 2016, the Club will launch a leadership programme for all Youth players (Year 9 to Year 12). This programme (which has been developed with assistance from a Registered Training Organisation) will be delivered by qualified trainers and former elite athletes. The objectives of this programme are:

·         Retention of junior sports participants from junior/modified (Year 7-9) sport to youth (Year 10-12)sport
·         Promotion of “non-elite” adult community sporting pathways for Youth sports participants
·         Define and explain the issues facing young adults in their sporting life
·         Promotion of sporting values to junior and youth participants for broader application in their lives
·         Development of individual and collective leadership skills
·         Educate participants on specific game strategies

It will be delivered in 4 x 90 minute sessions over the course of the season. They are:

1.       Sporting Values, Beliefs and Attitudes
2.       Leadership – Personal. Collective.
3.       Matchplay – All about Footy! Team and Self Improvement.
4.       Sporting Pathways – Elite. Community. Social.

The programme has been developed to ensure that all participants gain benefit irrespective of football ability, personal ambition, academic expertise or socio-economic background.

Clubroom Development
In last year’s welcome I mentioned the Club had formed a sub-committee to work with stakeholders on developing our Clubrooms. I am pleased to report that in a matter of weeks we will receive the plans from council for this development. The Club has (and will continue to have) input into the final facility. The project cost for this development will be between $800,000 and $1,000,000 so we look forward to an upgraded and more functional facility in the near future. Construction is likely to commence before the end of the season. We will all need to exercise some patience as this project takes shape.
Sponsors
CBJFC has always had the support of parents and businesses throughout its history. This is continuing in 2016. All of our sponsors are listed on our Website and promoted at Club events and through Social media throughout the year. If you – or anyone your know – would like to be involved with one of WA’s leading community sporting organisations, please contact Shawn Pearson Community Engagement Coordinator, CBJFC on 0488700321.
Finally, Coolbinia Bombers Junior Football Club enjoys a reputation of inclusiveness, enjoyment and innovation that is unrivalled in community sporting clubs. This reputation has been hard earned over many years, by parents, grandparents, carers, volunteers and committees. The willingness of our members and families to contribute is fantastic and I know in Season 2016, the members, families and supporters of CBJFC will work hard to live up to that reputation.

See you at the Club.
