Female Football

In 2006 the Coolbinia Bombers were the first Club in Western Australia to offer an all Female Football program. Building on that long and proud history we are very pleased in 2020 to offer a complete female football pathway from our Auskick “Bomberettes” starting from Pre-Primary, all the way through to Year 12 Youth Girls. We aim to provide a safe and fun environment where young female footballers can play AFL football, develop their skills through training, activities, games, under match rules and conditions, regardless of skill level and experience.

With the launch of National AFL Women’s competition in 2017,  female football participation has exploded across Australia, including at the Coolbinia Bombers. We now boast 1 in 4 members or over 140 girls who are playing football at the club. The National Women’s AFL presents an amazing opportunity for female athletes to compete at the highest level. Any young girl who joins Coolbinia Bombers has the opportunity to progress to women’s representative football, or just as importantly, become the next amateur player, umpire, coach or fan of the game.

The Bombers have had multiple Western Australia Female state team representatives as well as several girls in the WA Talent Academy. Coolbinia Bombers looks forward to it’s future female stars progressing to higher levels. The success of Coolbinia Bombers JFC girls football has been driven by an exclusive all-female football pathway commencing at Pre-primary level.

Female football is on a journey and changes have once again been made to the structure and format of girls football. The planned format for 2020 is:

Bomberettes (Pre-primary to Year 2)
The Bomberettes are a standalone girls team as part of our Auskick program. This is a great introduction for the girls to be introduced to the game, learn new skills and have fun (without any of those annoying boys around!). The NAB AFL Auskick program provides a safe and friendly environment to introduce players to the skills and rules of AFL Football. Bomberettes Auskick runs on Sunday mornings at Coolbinia #1 Oval, Bradford St, Coolbinia from 8.45am till approx 10.15am.

Junior Girls (Years 3 – 4) and (Years 5-6)
After progressing through Bomberettes, the girls and new members can progress to our Junior Girls programs. The Year 3 – 4 and Y5-6 Girls teams play a modified AFL rules format. The girls will train once a week and play a season of home and away games against other female teams within the Central Conference. The emphasis is on participation, skill and teamwork development in a safe, fun environment. Games are played on Friday nights at various venues.

Youth Girls (Year 7 – 8)
The Youth Girls (Year 7 – 8) will play to modified AFL rules against other girl’s teams throughout the Central Conference. Often a very free-flowing game, the Year 7 & 8 Girls will aim to increase football skills, teamwork and also football smarts (something much easier to teach girls than boys!). Scores are kept, with premiership points and finals on offer at the end of the season. Games are played on Friday nights at various venues.

Youth Girls (Year 9 – 10 team)  AND  New in 2020 Youth Girls Year 11-12 team
With the recent expansion of girls football, the Senior youth Girls play to full AFL rules against other girl’s teams throughout the Central Conference. Here is the opportunity for girls of all levels of experience and skill to play a free-flowing game, develop their skills, teamwork and football smarts. A ladder is kept with premiership points and finals on offer at the end of the season. Games are played on Friday nights at various venues.

After the Bombers?
The Coolbinia Bombers JFC are proud to be aligned with East Perth Women’s Football Team. East Perth offer Seniors, Reserves and Rogers Cup (U18) and girls who progress through Junior football are free to pursue their football career with East Perth…..and then who knows? Women’s AFL

So come on down and join the Bombers. All skills and experience are welcome. Why not Try Footy – come down for one session and see if you like it. All parents and friends are encouraged to help out with the teams.
