2020 Club Captains

We are pleased to announce Smiley Mettam and Annie Kenwery as our boys and girls Club captains for 2020. Both Smiley and Annie have shown themselves to be wonderful representatives and leaders around the club. We are sure they will continue to lead by example by upholding the values and community spirit we pride ourselves on at Coolbinia. Please join us in congratulating both Annie and Smiley who have penned their own personal messages below.

Annie Kenwery – Girls Club Captain

I am very honoured to be selected as Club Girls Captain for 2020. I joined Coolbinia Bombers as a Bomberette in 2011 and I have been pleased to watch the growth of our club and in particular, girls’ football. When I started, we had one team and a handful of girls. Today we have well over 100 girls and 6 teams! The growth in girls’ football would not be possible without the supportof a great club like Coolbinia. I would like to welcome all new players to the club. Please get involved with the club, support our coaches and have fun! I know that games and training sessions of the season have been cancelled in the light of COVID-19, and although a lot of the players would be feeling disappointed (I know I was really looking forward to this season!), however I think it’s important to stay positive and healthy during these trying times. Why not pick up a footy and handpass with your parents in the backyard or bounce the ball while you walk around the block? It’s important to not let this situation to get in the way of doing things that make you happy, even if you have to change the activity slightly to suit the social distancing guidelines. I wish all girls and boys all the best and a great 2020 season. Go Bombers!

Smiley Mettam – Boys Club Captain

I would like to welcome everyone to this new 2020 season. I first started at Coolbinia Bombers 12 years ago and for my parents that’s a lot of weekends of football. They however do not mind because of the great community and culture at Coolbinia Bombers Junior Football Club. Since joining I have enjoyed every moment of being at the club and I hope that others have the same experience. I hope this year can still be a great year despite the setback to the start of the season. In the meantime, I would encourage all players to have a footy in their hands as much as possible.
